Crossing the ₹4 trillion milestone, India’s electronics exports surge ahead, with smartphone shipments and fresh momentum expected as semiconductor fabs begin operations.
India’s electronics exports crossed the ₹4 trillion mark in 2025. The growth is expected to accelerate further in 2026, according to Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw. He said the momentum will be driven by four semiconductor fabrication plants scheduled to begin commercial production this year.
Sharing the update on social media, Vaishnaw said the surge in exports has created large-scale employment and boosted foreign exchange earnings. He added that the sector’s growth would be reinforced as domestic chip-making capacity comes on stream.
Official estimates show that electronics production reached about ₹11.3 trillion in 2024-25, while exports stood at roughly ₹3.3 trillion during the year. The mobile phone segment continues to anchor the industry, accounting for the largest share of output and overseas shipments.
The minister also cited a report highlighting the sharp rise in Apple-led exports. iPhone exports from India touched ₹2.03 trillion in 2025, nearly double the ₹1.1 trillion recorded in calendar year 2024.
Industry body India Cellular and Electronics Association estimates mobile phone production will reach US$75 billion, or around ₹6.76 trillion, by the end of the current financial year.
Exports are expected to exceed US$30 billion, equivalent to about ₹2.7 trillion. In 2024–25, India produced mobile phones worth ₹5.5 trillion, with exports of nearly ₹2 trillion. Employment in the electronics sector is estimated at over 2.5 million, underscoring its role as a major job creator.
According to Counterpoint Research, India is expected to produce nearly 300 million mobile phones in 2025, with one in four units exported. Higher average selling prices, driven by premium models, have lifted export value. The US remains a key destination, supported by Apple, Samsung and Motorola.
Data from IDC shows Apple shipped a record 5 million iPhones in the domestic market during a single quarter in 2025. The company now leads India’s premium and super-premium smartphone segments, further strengthening the country’s electronics export story.
