India’s first purpose built Sovereign AI Park will integrate AI compute secure data research labs innovation clusters and AI governance institute.
The Tamil Nadu government has signed an MoU with Sarvam AI to establish India’s first full stack Sovereign AI Park, with an initial investment of ₹100 billion and the creation of about 1,000 high skilled deep tech jobs. The MoU was exchanged in the presence of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, marking a major step in positioning the State as a national leader in artificial intelligence.
According to an official statement, the Sovereign AI Park will be a first of its kind purpose built district integrating AI compute infrastructure, secure data frameworks, model research laboratories and AI innovation clusters, along with a dedicated Institute for AI in Governance. The park will function as a full stack ecosystem where data, models and computers remain within the State’s trust boundary, ensuring sovereign, ethical and inclusive deployment of AI systems.
Tamil Nadu industries minister T.R.B Rajaa said the initiative would enable large scale deployment of AI across sectors such as education, agriculture, healthcare and citizen engagement. He described the project as an unprecedented move that would place Tamil Nadu at the forefront of AI adoption in India.
Industries Secretary Arun Roy said the park would make Tamil Nadu one of the few global locations offering AI grade infrastructure and deep talent within a single ecosystem, helping the State attract the next wave of global technology investment.
IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti said anchoring sovereign AI infrastructure and frontier research in Tamil Nadu would empower students and researchers to become global creators of AI rather than consumers.
Sarvam AI co-founder Pratyush Kumar said the park would bring together researchers, startups, enterprises and government to move AI from experimentation to real world impact at national scale. Drawing inspiration from the historic Sangam academies, the park will also develop Tamil first AI models rooted in local language and culture.
