Powered by festive demand, soaring notebook sales and enterprise refreshes, India’s PC market hits record Q3 shipments even as tablets slump by 19% on delayed education orders.

India’s personal computer (PC) market delivered its strongest quarter on record in Q3 2025, driven by robust festive-season preparation and steady enterprise demand, according to new research from Omdia.
Shipments of desktops and notebooks reached 4.9 million units, rising 13% year on year. Notebooks accounted for 4.0 million units, up 12%, while desktop shipments climbed 18% to 920,000 units. In contrast, the country’s tablet market declined 19% to 1.6 million units, largely due to delays in government-led education deployments, despite stable consumer interest.
Looking ahead, Omdia expects India’s PC market to continue expanding in 2026, albeit at a slower 2% growth rate, supported by ongoing refresh cycles and increasing adoption of AI-enabled devices. Commercial tablet shipments are also expected to recover next year as deferred education projects move into execution.
Consumer PC demand surged 20% in Q3 2025. Early channel stocking ahead of the festive period helped vendors capture online sales momentum, while physical retail demand followed as discounts and cashback schemes widened.
Premium notebook shipments rose 27%, supported by broader availability of high-specification devices and attractive financing offers.
The commercial PC segment expanded 7%, aided by consistent enterprise refresh programmes and predictable upgrade rollouts. Large organisations stayed aligned to planned purchase cycles.
However, small and medium businesses remained cautious, anticipating higher component prices, particularly for memory and displays. Analysts expect SMB spending to strengthen over the coming quarters as budget commitments improve.
Among the vendors, HP led with 27% share (1.32m units), followed by Lenovo 18.3%, Acer 15.2%, Asus 10.7%, and Dell 10.4%. Lenovo and Asus posted strong double-digit annual growth, while ‘Others’ segment grew fastest at 35.1%, reflecting broad market expansion.
The tablet market, however, saw a sharper contraction. Shipments dropped 19% amid stalled education orders and subdued spending among private institutions. However, the consumer tablet category grew 14%, driven by demand for affordable LTE models and continued use in entertainment and learning.

Samsung led with 37.7% share despite a 23.2% decline. Apple grew 5.5% with 15.4% share, while Lenovo surged 33.2% to 14.3%. Xiaomi slipped 8.9%, Acer plunged 60.6%, and Others declined 27.5%, highlighting a sharply contracting market with mixed vendor performance.
“Q3 2025 reflected a strong mix of consumer enthusiasm and steady commercial execution,” said Ashweej Aithal, Senior Analyst at Omdia. “Festive-led promotions and broader premium availability supported one of the strongest consumer quarters in recent cycles, while enterprises maintained their refresh plans despite pricing pressures.”
For 2025, the overall PC market is projected to grow 13%. Aithal added that component pricing challenges in 2026 may even bring forward procurement decisions.
Omdia expects AI-capable notebooks to emerge as one of the fastest-growing categories in 2026. Meanwhile, tablet recovery will hinge on the timely execution of long-pending education initiatives, with public-sector deployments expected to drive momentum.
