India-headquartered Dixon Technologies is gearing up to apply for the recently announced PLI schemes. Several media reports indicate that the company plans to invest Rs 250 crore and create 2,500 jobs within nine months under the PLI scheme.
Sunil Vachani, Chairman, Dixon Technologies feels the recently announced schemes to be as the game changer. He confirmed that Dixon will be applying for the scheme and investing Rs 250 crore in next eight to nine months.
The PLI scheme promises incentives in the range if four to six per cent for mobile manufacturing companies. These are based on incremental sales calculated taking 2019-20 as the base year. The government of India has started inviting applications for the scheme through Industrial Finance Corporation of India (IFCI).
Dixon contract manufactures for mobile and consumer electronics brands
Dixon Technologies has been contract manufacturing consumer electronics and mobile phones for many brands in India. The company, in January 2020, had shared plans to manufacture TVs for Samsung in India. The former mentioned about plans to utilise its Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh facility to do the same.
Dixon, apart from manufacturing LED TVs in India, has already been manufacturing washing machines and mobiles for Samsung. The former during October 2019 had announced that it will be responsible for manufacturing feature phones for the latter in India.
Dixon has been associated with Samsung’s home appliances business from last two years. In fact the company, not long ago, had celebrated 100,000 unit production milestone for Samsung.
It was also associated with Xiaomi for manufacturing of TVs and security cameras. During that partnership, the company said it will start start producing smartphones, washing machines and consumer electronics in the future.
