Aiming for 160GW capacity, Andhra Pradesh has approved ₹714 billion worth of renewable energy projects under its 2024 policy, including solar and hydrogen initiatives.
The Andhra Pradesh government has recently approved renewable energy projects worth ₹714 billion as a part of its newly introduced ‘Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy Policy, 2024’, aligning with India’s net-zero goals.
According to a report by the Deccan Herald, the projects include major companies like Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), Tata Power, Clean Renewable Energy Hybrid Three Pvt Ltd, and John Cockerill.
These proposals, including ventures such as solar power facilities and a hydrogen electrolyser manufacturing unit, were approved within an average of 60 to 70 days.
The policy, notified on October 30, 2024, aims to position the state as a hub for renewable energy projects, utilising its vast land resources and natural advantages. Andhra Pradesh is keen to attract significant investments, with the state fast-tracking approvals for projects in this sector.
Tata Power is planning a 400 MW solar power plant, while John Cockerill, in collaboration with Greenko, has proposed a 2 GW hydrogen electrolyser manufacturing facility in Kakinada.
The hydrogen electrolyser facility, which is part of the joint venture between John Cockerill and Greenko, has been granted a series of incentives under the new policy. These include capital subsidies, land conversion support, electricity and water subsidies, and reimbursement of various duties.
Andhra Pradesh has an ambitious target to add over 160GW of renewable energy capacity, potentially attracting investments of up to ₹10 trillion and creating an estimated 750,000 jobs.
