Set to transform citizen services, healthcare, education, and culture across 22 languages, India will witness Param2, its sovereign 17B multilingual AI model, at the AI Impact Summit 2026.
BharatGen, India’s sovereign artificial intelligence (AI) initiative, has announced the launch of BharatGen Param2, a 17‑billion parameter multilingual foundational model supporting 22 Indian languages. The model will be formally unveiled at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, starting 16 February 2026.
Built as a Mixture of Experts (MoE) architecture, Param2 has been trained on Indian data and is designed to advance AI self-reliance. BharatGen officials said the model will serve applications across enterprise, governance, healthcare, education, agriculture, and cultural preservation, with demonstrations planned at the summit in collaboration with government and industry partners.
In governance, MahaGPT, developed in partnership with the Government of Maharashtra, will be showcased as a solution for the urban development and revenue departments. Other projects include AI-enabled citizen services in water and sanitation, and digital transformation initiatives with the Goa Government.
Healthcare demonstrations will feature Medsum, an app connecting doctors and patients with health information. Education pilots include spoken English assessment tools developed with the Kotak Education Foundation. Cultural initiatives will highlight Gyan Bharatam, digitising manuscripts for the Ministry of Culture, and AI tools for the National Archives of India.
Fintech applications include an AI-powered insurance policy explainer, underwriting copilots, and a conversational bot for the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA).
“India’s AI progress must be built on language access and contextual understanding. BharatGen is developing AI systems that work naturally across Indian languages and sectors,” commented Rishi Bal, the CEO of BharatGen,
He further noted, “These models are designed for real deployment across citizen services, finance, healthcare, and education, while strengthening India’s sovereign AI capability.
Supported under the IndiaAI Mission, BharatGen has received government-backed high-performance computing infrastructure. The company highlighted that this initiative aligns with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, positioning India as a global leader in sovereign AI.
