Greater Noida-based contract manufacturer Calcom is doubling factory space and betting on infrastructure-led demand.
Calcom Vision, an electronics manufacturing services company, said it is venturing into solar-powered outdoor street lighting. The firm will make these lights at its Greater Noida plant, which is being expanded from 15,000 square metres to 30,000 square metres.
It hopes to pull in ₹1 billion in revenue from this new segment by the financial year 2030, riding on the government push for solar lighting in highways, smart cities, and rural areas.
The move marks a shift from its core indoor lighting business toward project-based outdoor solutions.
For Calcom, which mainly designs and makes LED lights for brands like Panasonic and Bajaj, this is a deliberate push into a tender-driven market that demands larger, more complex installations.
Solar street lights carry better margins and open doors to long-term maintenance contracts. The company also plans to also manufacture battery packs for these lights and for electric two- and three-wheelers, adding another layer. If it executes well, solar outdoor lighting could make up a fifth of its total revenue over the next five years.
Abhishek Malik, Executive Director of Calcom Vision Limited, says, “Our entry into solar outdoor lighting is a deliberate step toward becoming a preferred ODM for leading lighting brands in the industrial and outdoor segments“.
Calcom has been in the lighting business since 2009, operating as an original design manufacturer. Its Greater Noida factory already runs 11 SMT lines and 10 assembly lines, with in-house plastic extrusion and powder coating. The expansion will let it churn out 10,000 to 15,000 solar street lights a year and can be scaled up as orders grow. The company says it is already seeing early interest from clients. Separately, it recently struck a manufacturing deal with Goldmedal Electricals for LED products, which should add ₹20-25 crore annually once it reaches full capacity.
