Paving the way for a green energy corridor, GEAPP joins UP Expressways Authority to create India’s inaugural 450-500 MW solar park along the Bundelkhand Expressway.
The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) has partnered with the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) to develop a 450-500 MW solar park along the Bundelkhand Expressway, estimated to cost ₹18 billion.
This project marks the first of its kind in India. It aims to establish a green energy corridor across the 296-km expressway, making the region a model for scalable solar infrastructure.
Following an extensive feasibility study, GEAPP identified the potential to install up to 450 MW of solar capacity on designated land areas of 15-20 metres on both sides of the expressway.
The solar park will utilise 1,700 hectares of land and operate under a build-own-operate model. The project’s total tenure can be extended up to 25 years, committing to long-term economic and environmental sustainability.
The project will involve a single-stage bidding process, with bidders selected based on the revenue share they offer to the authority. The UPEIDA has already announced a request for proposals (RFP) on October 8, inviting bids from global participants.
With India’s 6,000 km of expressways presenting immense renewable energy potential, the Bundelkhand Solar Highway project alone could unlock up to 10 GW of solar power. This initiative represents a significant step forward for India’s green energy ambitions.
