Strengthening its footprint in India, Harman is investing billions to scale production and meet rising demand for connected car technologies.
Harman, a wholly owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and a global leader in connected automotive technologies, announced a ₹3.45 billion investment to expand its automotive electronics manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune. The expansion aims to boost production capacity, advance telematics capabilities, and strengthen India’s role in global automotive supply chains.
The new investment includes ₹450 million for immediate capacity expansion and an additional ₹3 billion over the next three years to support next-generation connectivity programs. With this, Harman’s cumulative investment in the Pune plant rises to ₹5.54 billion since its establishment in 2014. The expansion is expected to create 300 new jobs by 2027.
Christian Sobottka, CEO and President of Automotive at Harman, said, “This investment is a clear signal of our commitment to India. Pune is not just adding capacity, it’s building the future of connected cars.”
The Pune facility serves as a global hub for connected car technologies, producing infotainment systems, telematics units, and car audio components for Indian automakers such as Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, and Mahindra & Mahindra, as well as export markets in Europe and North America.
The latest expansion adds 71,505 sq. ft. of built-up space, including a 45,000 sq. ft. production floor, increasing capacity by 50%. The upgraded facility will deliver four million car audio components, 1.4 million infotainment units, and 0.8 million telematics control units annually by 2027.
