Set to double production capacity and support key sectors like electronics, aerospace, and defence, Harwin breaks ground on a £30 million, eco-friendly facility in Portsmouth, UK.
Harwin, a global PCB hardware and interconnect device manufacturer, has begun work on a new £30 million facility in Portsmouth, which is scheduled to be completed in 2026. Once operational, the new manufacturing facility will increase Harwin’s ability to support the aerospace, defence, industrial automation, and advanced electronics sectors.
It will further double the company’s production capacity in Portsmouth, helping to meet customer demands and improve the stability of its global supply chain.

According to the company, the 7459 square-metre site incorporates several environmentally sustainable features. Among these is a rooftop solar installation with 388 high-efficiency solar panels, which is expected to generate 244,000 kWh annually, massively reducing carbon emissions.
Additionally, the multi-level, four-storey structure of the unit has been designed to meet the rigorous BREEAM sustainability standards, minimising land use and mitigating the facility’s impact on the surrounding area.
The company has also focused on eco-friendly commuting by offering a higher-than-average bike-to-car parking ratio, with over a third of spaces dedicated to bicycles. The site will further feature electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
“By embedding sustainability into both our design and operations, we are not just expanding our manufacturing capacity; we are also setting a new standard for responsible industrial development in the UK,” noted Jon Churchill, Harwin’s Operations Director.
“This facility will be constructed with top-quality materials and advanced design, allowing Harwin to optimise their production capabilities to meet future market needs,” added James Ashley, Divisional Building Operations Manager at Knights Brown, the contractor overseeing this project.
