Friday, November 29, 2013: In order to work closely in the sector of renewable energy, India and Belgium have decided to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The plan was discussed at a bilateral meeting between Farooq Abdullah, Minister for new and renewable energy, Government of India and Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid of Belgium, myiris reported.
The visiting delegation was informed about the energy situation of India and how the renewable energy sector is growing in a rapid manner.
Additionally, Abdullah talked about the country’s plan to add around 30 GW of renewable energy to its energy mix in the next 5 years. He also mentioned about the successful wind programme and how Jawaharlal Lal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) has led to significant cost reductions in solar energy. He credited this growth to our investor friendly policy framework.
Abdullah suggested that India and Belgium had great potential for enhancing cooperation in promoting renewable energy and offered to provide all possible assistance for the purpose, the report stated.
At the end of the discussion, both parties agreed upon signing the MoU in the field of renewable energy between the ministry of new and renewable energy of the Government of India and the Government of Belgium. Additionally, the two countries agreed to find other possibilities of coordination in renewable energy by means of joint research and development programmes of mutual interest.
