Eyeing expansion, Maruti Suzuki plans new launches, nationwide EV infrastructure, and 150,000 trained staff, aiming to expand India’s electric mobility landscape by 2030.
Maruti Suzuki India is preparing to enter the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market with the e Vitara, its first EV, scheduled for launch in 2026. The company plans to offer additional EV models across different body types and segments in the coming years.
In an event on December 2, 2025, Maruti Suzuki India MD and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said the company’s strategy aligns with Suzuki Motor Corporation’s global EV plans. He noted the company aims to make EV adoption easier for customers through product availability and infrastructure.
By 2030, Maruti Suzuki intends to establish around 100,000 charging stations in partnership with dealers and charge point operators. Currently, the company operates over 2000 exclusive charging points across sales and service locations in more than 1100 cities, including the top 100 cities with high EV adoption. Additional inter-city locations have been identified to address range concerns.
The company is working with 13 charge point operators and aggregators to expand access to public charging infrastructure. Customers can use the ‘e for me’ app to locate and access all charging points. Maruti Suzuki has invested approximately ₹2.5 billion in developing the charging network and the app.
The company is also training a workforce of 150,000 employees to support EV operations.
Takeuchi said the e Vitara has been designed to reduce ownership challenges, particularly around range. The vehicle has received a comprehensive 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating.
