How will the Indian Navy counter navigation threats at sea? A new ₹4.49 billion indigenous GNSS jammer deal aims to strengthen operational security.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed a ₹4.49 billion contract with Bengaluru-based Accord Software and Systems Private Limited (ASSPL) for the procurement of 20 Enhanced Capability Global Navigation Satellite System (ECGNSS) jammers for the Indian Navy.
The agreement was signed on 10 June 2026 in New Delhi under the Buy (Indian–Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh was present during the signing. According to the ministry, the systems will have a minimum indigenous content of 75%, aligning with the government’s efforts to increase domestic participation in defence manufacturing.
The ECGNSS jammers are designed to disrupt and degrade an adversary’s satellite-based navigation capabilities. Their functions include reducing the effectiveness of signal acquisition and tracking by hostile Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers, as well as conducting signal spoofing and deceptive jamming operations.
Defence officials said the induction of these systems is expected to improve the operational safety of Indian Navy vessels operating in complex and contested environments.
Modern naval operations increasingly depend on satellite-based navigation and positioning systems, making protection against electronic warfare and navigation-related threats a key requirement.
The procurement forms part of broader efforts to strengthen India’s maritime security capabilities and enhance the Navy’s preparedness against evolving technological challenges.
By incorporating domestically designed and manufactured systems, the project is also expected to contribute to the development of indigenous defence technologies and reduce reliance on imported equipment.
The ECGNSS jammer programme is expected to support both capability enhancement and domestic technology development within the country’s defence sector.
