Revolt Motors is set to transform the entry-level motorcycle market by introducing two new all-electric bikes. These motorcycles are tailored for the commuter segment, featuring competitive pricing, high localisation, and low total cost of ownership. They also boast a high payload capacity, rapid charging capabilities, and a smooth, gearless riding experience, making them an ideal choice for stress-free commuting.
Revolt Motors, based in New Delhi and now a wholly owned subsidiary of RattanIndia Enterprises, has launched an aggressive new campaign in the electric motorcycle market with its latest models, the Revolt RV1 and Revolt RV1+, introduced in September 2024. These motorcycles, which stand out in a market dominated by electric scooters, are positioned to compete in the entry-level commuter bike market, a segment traditionally dominated by major players like Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, and TVS Motor Co.
With these new models, Revolt Motors is targeting the entry-level internal combustion engine commuter motorcycle segment, specifically the 100cc-125cc category, which accounts for over 44% of two-wheeler sales in India and sees annual sales exceeding 8 million units. The RV1 and RV1+ are aimed at taking on established models like the Hero Splendor and Honda Shine, appealing to cost-conscious consumers who prioritize reliability and efficiency.
Revolt Motors’ pricing strategy has proven effective, with over 16,000 bookings recorded in the first week of launch. The RV1 was introduced at an introductory price of Rs 84,990, while the RV1+ was priced at Rs 99,990. Both models target riders seeking low total cost of ownership, modern technology, and the convenience of gearless commuting amidst rising petrol prices.
For the January to November 2024 period, Revolt Motors sold 8,947 units, marking a 42% increase year-over-year. The sales in October 2024 alone grew by 38% year-over-year, and retail demand in November nearly tripled compared to the previous year. The company has been expanding its dealership network, especially in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, which are critical markets for commuter motorcycles.
The Revolt RV1 and RV1+ feature advanced specifications, including LED lighting, a digital display, under-seat storage for the charger, and high localization levels of components, including the chassis, switchgear, and tyres. The RV1 offers a 100km range with a 2.2kWh battery, while the RV1+ extends to 160km with a 3.24kWh battery. The RV1+ also supports fast charging, adding to its appeal.
Revolt Motors continues to focus on quality and local production, with key components like the mid-drive electric motor and lithium-ion battery packs being manufactured and assembled in India. This strategy not only supports competitive pricing but also positions the Revolt RV1 and RV1+ as significant growth drivers for the company, enhancing its market position with robust product offerings and an extensive sales and aftersales network.
