Looking to reshape Apple’s supply chain play, Tata Electronics rebrands Pegatron India with major expansion, leadership overhaul, and smartphone component manufacturing boost.
Tata Electronics has renamed Pegatron Technology India as Tata Electronics Products and Solutions Private Ltd, marking a shift in its electronics manufacturing strategy.
According to a report by the Financial Express, the rebranding is part of a broader move to establish itself as a major player in Apple’s global supply chain, directly competing with established contract manufacturers like Foxconn.
The Tata Group, which holds majority control in the venture, has also overhauled the company’s leadership. Randhir Thakur, MD and CEO of Tata Electronics, along with senior executives Srinivas Satya (President – Components Business and Supply Chain) and Sriram Kadiyala (CFO), have joined the board of the rebranded firm.
Meanwhile, Pegatron’s former India head, Chiu Tan Lin, has stepped aside from his executive role but continues to serve on the board.
This transition aligns with Tata Electronics’ wider ambition to scale up iPhone assembly and component production, particularly as global technology companies reduce their dependence on Chinese manufacturing.
Industry observers see this as a timely move, with India increasingly positioned as a preferred alternative in the electronics supply chain.
Tata’s involvement in iPhone manufacturing began in late 2023, following its acquisition of Wistron’s Karnataka-based facility for over ₹10 billion. That move marked the group’s official entry into smartphone assembly.
Since then, it has also commenced manufacturing casings and reportedly assembled earlier-generation iPhones at its Hosur facility in Tamil Nadu.
Earlier this year, Tata Electronics acquired a 60% stake in Pegatron’s Indian operations. The agreement included plans to consolidate its smartphone-focused business units, including integrating TEL Components, another Tata entity, into the rebranded firm.
The restructured company will also oversee Tata’s ongoing expansion at the Hosur site, where a ₹67.5-billion project is underway. This phase will focus on producing key smartphone components such as printed circuit boards, display modules, and chargers.
Alongside electronics manufacturing, Tata Electronics is expanding into semiconductor services, including design, testing, and assembly. This strategic pivot underscores its ambition to become India’s comprehensive technology manufacturing hub.
The company has not officially commented on rebranding or future plans.
