Servotech Partners With IIT Roorkee For CCS2 And Onboard EV Chargers

Discover how this alliance can enhance self-reliance, fuel innovation, and drive India’s electric mobility revolution.

Servotech Power Systems Ltd. (SPSL) has forged two crucial Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee. These collaborations are set to revolutionise the domestic electric vehicles (EV) charging landscape by focusing on developing rectifier units for combined charging system(CCS2) chargers and onboard EV chargers tailored for two, three, and four-wheelers.

The CCS2 charger, an integral component in EV charging infrastructure, has traditionally been imported, presenting a challenge to the domestic manufacturing sector. With this partnership, SPSL aims to strengthen the nation’s self-reliance by fostering indigenous production capabilities. By nurturing the growth of the domestic EV industry through advanced technology, this collaboration is expected to reshape the future of EV charging in India.

One of the outcomes of this partnership is the development of onboard chargers for electric vehicles. These compact and lightweight chargers are designed to be directly integrated into two, three, and four-wheeled vehicles, eliminating the need for a separate charging unit. This not only enhances the convenience of EV users but also reduces the overall cost and complexity of electric vehicles. As a result, SPSL envisions becoming a leading original equipment manufacturer (OEM) supplier for onboard chargers in the two, three, and four-wheeler market segments.

Raman Bhatia, the Managing Director of Servotech Power Systems, emphasised the significance of this collaboration, stating, “India’s two, three, and four-wheeler charger market presents a substantial yet untapped opportunity. With an influx of Chinese components dominating the current landscape, the company is positioning itself as the foremost original equipment manufacturer (OEM)  supplier of onboard chargers tailored to the unique needs of Indian electric vehicles. This development underscores our commitment to realizing the ‘Make in India’ concept and promoting sustainable technologies within the EV ecosystem. Our partnership will play a pivotal role in establishing the company as a global leader in the EV industry.”

Professor Mukesh Pathak, Principal Investigator in the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Roorkee, expressed his enthusiasm for this collaboration, saying, “We are delighted to collaborate with the company to spearhead EV charging technology development. These partnerships reflect our dedication to creating innovative, homegrown solutions for the Indian EV sector. We believe that the EV charging technology arising from these collaborations will accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles and revolutionize transportation and energy consumption in India.”

This collaboration marks a significant step forward in India’s quest for self-reliance in the EV industry. By focusing on rectifier units for CCS2 chargers and onboard chargers for two, three, and four-wheelers, this partnership is poised to drive innovation, boost domestic manufacturing capabilities, and elevate India’s standing in the global EV ecosystem.
