Gogoro Debuts India-Made CrossOver Smartscooter With Battery Swapping Ecosystem

Initially focusing on B2B clients in Delhi and Goa, the company aims to expand its services to Mumbai and Pune by the first half of 2024.

Gogoro Inc., a global player in battery-swapping technology for sustainable urban mobility, has announced the launch of its battery-swapping ecosystem and Smartscooters in India. The unveiling includes their first India-made Smartscooter, the CrossOver GX250. Initially targeting B2B customers in Delhi and Goa, the company intends to extend its services to Mumbai and Pune in early 2024, followed by consumer availability in the second quarter of the same year.

Horace Luke, Gogoro’s founder and CEO, highlighted the significant potential for change in global urban transportation, particularly in India with its vast number of mopeds and motorcycles. He emphasized that the CrossOver GX250, tailored for Indian riders with added seating space, storage, and ground clearance, represents the brand’s ethos.

The CrossOver series, including the GX250, CrossOver 50, and CrossOver S, features a new all-terrain frame for improved rigidity and comfort. The series offers versatility in storage, riding, and customization. The GX250 is currently available, with the other models expected to ship later in 2024.

The CrossOver GX250, manufactured in Maharashtra, India, is designed to cater to Indian roads with a sturdy all-terrain frame that offers enhanced rigidity and the highest ground clearance in Gogoro’s lineup. It boasts a 2.5 kW Direct Drive for a top speed over 60 kph and a range of 111 km. The scooter’s frame enhances suspension durability and supports larger loads while maintaining comfort and stability. The GX250’s design accommodates various riding needs with ample storage space, including 26 locking points for cargo. It features a flexible cargo capacity with four cargo areas and options for expanding storage.

The CrossOver GX250 received certification from the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) in August. In November, Gogoro became the first international two-wheel OEM recognized by the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) for EV financing programs.

Luke also pointed out Gogoro’s mission to drive a mass market shift to sustainable energy in densely populated cities through a safe, scalable, and open battery-swapping ecosystem. The demand for Gogoro’s battery swapping, Smartscooters, and technologies has been substantial in India, and the company is eager to start commercial operations with various partners. Luke noted the significant impact last-mile delivery riders, who ride six times more than consumer riders, can have on city sustainability by adopting smart, sustainable electric transportation.
