Online food delivery platform, Zomato, has announced its plans to achieve 100% deliveries through electric vehicles (EVs) by 2033. Within the next 12 years, their aim is to achieve net zero emissions across the entire food ordering and delivery value chain.
The company has announced various steps to provide sustainable environment friendly food delivery service. Voluntary recycling measures will be employed for plastic neutral food delivery. It aims to accomplish 100 million plastic free food orders by 2025.
As the government is pushing for EV adoption, Ramesh Krishnamurthi, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Labour and Employment, appreciated Zomato and other platforms for their efforts. He said, “From a sustainability perspective, the government’s push towards EV adoption has received a commitment by platforms, including Zomato, that is looking at facilitating 100 per cent deliveries through EVs leading to net zero emissions across the food ordering and delivery value chain by 2033.”
Recognising the importance of gig work in Indian livelihoods, Zomato announced support for 1 million gig workers through upskilling programs, partnerships, and benefit programs. The company aims to support 300 million micro small and medium food businesses and entrepreneurs.
