Primarily focusing on semiconductor development and digital technologies, besides healthcare and skill enhancement, India has entered four long precedented MoUs during PM Narendra Modi’s visit to solidify bilateral ties.
India and Singapore have agreed on four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) covering digital technologies, semiconductors, health cooperation, and skill development on Thursday during PM Modi’s visit to the country.
These agreements, anticipated following discussions at the ministerial roundtable between the two countries last week, are expected to strengthen their collaboration.
Among the four, India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry have signed a deal focused on the ‘India-Singapore Semiconductor Ecosystem Partnership.’ This agreement outlines a joint effort to develop semiconductor clusters and nurture talent in semiconductor design and manufacturing.
It was also highlighted that Singaporean firms involved in global semiconductor value chains are eager to invest in India. The dialogue mechanisms established by the MoU will focus on facilitating these investments in the country.
Another deal was established between India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Singapore’s Ministry of Digital Development and Information, focusing on synergy in digital technologies, including DPI, cybersecurity, 5G, and emerging fields like supercomputing, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence.
Additionally, the partnership will support efforts to upskill and reskill workers in the digital sector.
Subsequently, India’s Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Singapore’s Ministry of Education signed an MoU to bolster technical and vocational education and training cooperation, building on existing skill development initiatives.
The final MoU, signed by India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Singapore’s Ministry of Health, focused on collaboration in health and medicine, promoting joint research and innovation in shared areas of interest.
This pact also seeks to expand efforts in human resource development within the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors and support New Delhi’s initiative to promote Indian healthcare professionals in Singapore.
During his visit to Singapore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the Parliament House on Thursday and was greeted with a ceremonial welcome. He then met with Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and both leaders and their delegations engaged in bilateral discussions before signing the MoUs.
Reaching Singapore on Wednesday, PM Modi held numerous engagements across the city-state in his two-day visit.
