VLSID 2025 Begins, Global Industry Giants Unite In Bengaluru

With industry leaders, keynote talks, and panels shaping India’s future in tech and global connectivity, VLSID 2025’s inauguration was all about AI and semiconductor innovations!

The 38th edition of the International Conference on VLSI Design and the 24th International Conference on Embedded Systems, organised by the VLSI Society of India (VSI), was officially inaugurated on Monday, 6th January 2025 at The Leela Palace in Bengaluru.

The event brought together many veterans from the semiconductor industry, academia, and government, marking a significant milestone in India’s technology landscape. It gathered over 2700 registrants and featured 18 keynote sessions, 32 tutorials, 74 research papers, and five expert panel discussions. Additionally, the event hosted 16 user design sessions, 13 industry forum sessions, and 15 design contest finalists.

This year’s conference, themed ‘Silicon Meets AI: Sustainable Innovations in Accelerated Computing, Secure Connectivity & Intelligent Mobility,’ highlighted the critical role of VLSI and Embedded Systems in driving innovations across various fields, including AI/ML, 5G, IoT, quantum computing, and electric vehicles.

It showcased the synergy between semiconductor technologies and AI, validating their transformative impact on the future of computing, mobility, and connectivity.

Furthermore, the exhibition area featured over 50 exhibits and attracted more than 30 sponsors. These elements contributed to the event’s stature as a global symposium for innovation in semiconductor technologies.

A notable highlight of the inaugural ceremony was the ‘Chip-Pe-Charcha’ fireside chat with Dr Chris Miller, Professor at Tufts University and author of ‘Chip War: The Fight for the World’s Most Critical Technology’. The session, moderated by Dr Satya Gupta, President of VSI, delved into global innovations in semiconductors, including edge computing and data centres.

The discussions also centred on India’s semiconductor roadmap, with a strategic focus on positioning the country as a global hub for semiconductor innovation.

Dr Satya Gupta praised the conference as “a remarkable convergence of global talent and innovation,” emphasising its role in addressing future challenges while fostering collaboration across the semiconductor and AI ecosystems.

Patrick Johnson, Senior Vice President at Microchip Technology, highlighted the importance of integrating Silicon and AI, stating that VLSID 2025 offers a crucial platform to explore these advancements.

Sandeep Bharathi, Chief Development Officer at Marvell Technology, and Hitesh Garg, Vice President and India Managing Director at NXP Semiconductors, discussed how AI and ML are redefining the semiconductor design ecosystem and accelerating innovation, underscoring the importance of events like this.

“AI and ML are not just disrupting the semiconductor design ecosystem – they are redefining its very fabric, empowering innovators to dream bigger and push the boundaries of what is possible. We are glad that we could provide an ideal platform at VLSID 2025 to further explore how these advancements can redefine mobility, connectivity and give rise to a new generation of technological breakthroughs,” noted Bharathi.

According to Garg, “VLSID 2025 provides an excellent cross-learning opportunity among industry participants, startup ecosystem, and academia. It also enables students and researchers to present their ideas to industry veterans, address emerging challenges, and capitalise on new opportunities.”

VLSID 2025 also provided valuable opportunities for networking and knowledge exchange between leading industry figures, startups, and the academic world.

Earlier, in an exclusive interview with EFY, the General Chairs of the event, Marvell’s India head Navin Bishnoi, Microchip’s VP and MD Srikanth Settikere, and NXP’s Senior Director Rajeev Kumar Srivastava had stated, “This conference sets the stage for a collective push towards a future where technology responsibly serves humanity and the planet.”

With such vision, the event aligned with India’s flagship initiatives, such as Digital India, Make in India, and Startup India, supporting the country’s vision of creating a sustainable and innovative digital economy.
