Minister Visits World’s First Integrated RE Storage Project In Andhra Pradesh

Praising its scale, innovation, and contribution to India’s green goals, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi visited Greenko’s $4.2 billion integrated renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh.

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, visited the world’s first and largest integrated renewable energy storage project on Friday. Located in Pinnapuram near Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, the project is being developed by Greenko with a total investment of US$4.2 billion.

The initiative combines 4000MW of solar, 1000MW of wind, and 1680MW of pumped hydro storage. It has a daily storage capacity of 10,080MWh and will deliver dispatchable, carbon-free energy to industries such as green steel, aluminium, and hydrogen production.

Minister Joshi praised the scale and speed of the project’s development. He described it as a proud moment for the nation and a clear sign of India’s growing strength in renewable energy.

“This is a unique, first-of-its-kind project and the world’s largest integrated renewable energy project at a single location, showcasing India’s leadership in clean energy innovation,” he said in an X post.

Joshi also acknowledged the support of the Andhra Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, for enabling such innovation through forward-thinking policies.

Greenko CEO Anil Chalamalasetty outlined the project’s technical strengths, noting its capacity to help decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors. He said the initiative would stimulate regional economic growth, attract supporting industries, and generate employment.

The project is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 3.3 million tonnes annually, contributing to cleaner energy generation and national energy security. It also leverages Greenko’s Intelligent Renewable Energy Cloud Storage Platform.

According to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), in alignment with India’s ‘One Nation, One Grid’ policy, the system enables the production of cost-effective green fuels, supporting global decarbonisation efforts.

Minister Joshi concluded his visit with an aerial inspection of the vast facility, observing the integration of solar, wind, and hydropower components.
