IISc & Groww Foundation Launch Semiconductor Skill Programme to Build Future Talent

The programme includes multiple components spanning different stages of the academic pipeline.

The Centre for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE) at the Indian Institute of Science, in collaboration with the Groww Foundation, has launched a semiconductor skill development programme aimed at strengthening India’s advanced technology workforce.

The initiative focuses on building a robust semiconductor ecosystem by offering students exposure to micro- and nano-technology while promoting greater participation of women in STEM fields.

The programme includes multiple components spanning different stages of the academic pipeline. School students will be introduced to micro- and nano-technology concepts through laboratory visits and interactions with researchers, encouraging early interest in science and engineering careers.

A dedicated segment of the programme provides women students with hands-on research experience in nano science and semiconductor technology. Participants will work closely with CeNSE researchers, gaining practical exposure to laboratory practices, experimental techniques and interdisciplinary research.

Additionally, the initiative offers internship opportunities for students trained under skill development programmes supported by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. These internships aim to equip participants with practical knowledge of semiconductor fabrication processes and industry-relevant technical skills.

Ambarish Ghosh, Chair of CeNSE, said that developing a strong semiconductor ecosystem requires nurturing a diverse talent pool and creating opportunities across different academic stages.

Kalpana Swaminathan added that the collaboration seeks to expand access to advanced technology education, particularly for women and students from underrepresented communities.

The programme is expected to support over 160 students over a three-year period, with a focus on enhancing research exposure and improving industry readiness in the semiconductor sector.
