SASTRA University Ties Up with Tata Electronics, Caliber Interconnects to Boost Semiconductor Talent Development

The collaboration is designed as a model for industry–academia integration, aimed at accelerating skill development in electronics and semiconductor manufacturing

SASTRA University has signed separate Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Tata Electronics and Caliber Interconnects to strengthen talent development in India’s electronics and semiconductor sector. The collaborations aim to create an industry-ready workforce through new academic programs and upgraded infrastructure at the university’s Thanjavur campus.

As part of the partnerships, SASTRA will launch a BSc program in Electronics in collaboration with Tata Electronics and an MSc program in Applied Electronics with Caliber Interconnects. Both programs are designed to combine academic learning with practical exposure, including hands-on training, internships, and real-world experience in semiconductor manufacturing environments.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by S Krishnan, Secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, along with representatives from government, industry, and academia. The event also marked the inauguration of new facilities at the campus, including laboratories for electronics manufacturing, firmware development, e-mobility, and semiconductor testing and packaging assembly lines. These facilities have been established with support from Bajaj Auto, Tata Electronics, and other partners.

K Suresh Babu, Founder and Managing Director of Caliber Interconnects, said the collaboration aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry. He noted that the MSc Applied Electronics program will feature a co-developed, industry-driven curriculum focused on semiconductor testing, advanced packaging, and chiplet assembly.

He further added that Caliber Interconnects will support the program through hands-on training for students and faculty in silicon testing and packaging, access to advanced packaging and substrate assembly facilities, manufacturing-oriented learning in production environments, and structured internships with project-based engagement.

The collaboration is designed as a model for industry–academia integration, aimed at accelerating skill development in electronics and semiconductor manufacturing while supporting India’s broader push for technological self-reliance.
