L&T Semiconductor Arm Pacts With Newen For SiC Power Modules

A new semiconductor tie-up aims to power India’s clean energy shift, with a focus on high-efficiency modules for solar, storage and emerging energy systems.

L&T Semiconductor Technologies and Newen Systems signed a Master Services Agreement (MSA) for Silicon Carbide (SiC)-based power modules on April 21, 2026 with Newen Systems Pvt Ltd to support growing demand for efficient power conversion in renewables and emerging energy systems. Under this agreement, the companies will jointly design, develop, test, and supply next-gen SiC modules.

The collaboration will focus on renewable energy inverter applications and aims to strengthen domestic capabilities in advanced power electronics, according to the company.

The scope of the agreement includes joint engineering, product qualification, and supply chain alignment. Both companies will work on designing modules suited for high-efficiency power conversion systems, particularly in segments like Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), solar inverters, green hydrogen infrastructure, and electric mobility.

The Company sees SiC-based devices are being increasingly used as a step-up over conventional silicon components due to better thermal performance, higher efficiency, and ability to operate at higher voltages and switching frequencies. These characteristics make them suitable for next-generation energy systems where performance and reliability are critical.

The partnership will also scale manufacturing and distribution, pushing the company towards meeting rising domestic and global demand. Testing and validation under varied environmental conditions will be part of the development cycle to ensure reliability for real-world deployments.
