ICEA Chairman Pankaj Mohindroo Joins Government Trade Board

As India’s electronics exports gather pace, ICEA Chairman Pankaj Mohindroo’s appointment to the Board of Trade signals greater industry influence over national trade policy.

Pankaj Mohindroo, chairman of the India Cellular & Electronics Association (ICEA), has been appointed as a non-official member of the Government of India’s Board of Trade (BoT), giving the country’s electronics manufacturing industry a stronger presence in high-level trade policy discussions.

The appointment was announced as part of the government’s reconstitution of the Board of Trade, an advisory body chaired by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on June 4. 2026. The board brings together industry leaders and experts to provide recommendations on trade promotion, export competitiveness and policy reforms.

Mohindroo is among three representatives from the electronics sector nominated to the board. The others are Virat Bhatia, managing director of Apple India, and Jasbir Singh, chief executive officer of Amber Enterprises India Limited. Their inclusion reflects the growing importance of electronics manufacturing and exports within India’s broader trade strategy.

A long-time advocate of domestic electronics manufacturing, Mohindroo founded the industry body that later evolved into ICEA and has played a prominent role in policy discussions around localisation, exports, supply-chain development and India’s participation in global value chains.

On his LinkedIn handle, Mohindroo announced his appointment, saying, “While we can take pride in how far we have come, there is still much to be done. The opportunity before India is immense, and our collective responsibility is to ensure that the country secures a leadership position in global value chains and emerges as a preferred destination for manufacturing, innovation, and exports.”

The appointments come as electronics has emerged as one of India’s fastest-growing manufacturing sectors, driven by increasing mobile phone production, expanding exports and government initiatives aimed at strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities.

Industry observers view the representation of multiple electronics leaders on the Board of Trade as recognition of the sector’s growing contribution to exports, employment and industrial development.

It also provides the industry with a direct channel to contribute to discussions on trade policy, export growth and measures intended to enhance India’s competitiveness in global markets.
