Intel Taps Former SK Hynix CEO Seok-Hee Lee for Key Foundry Role

Lee joins from SK On and will help scale Intel’s next-generation packaging technologies for foundry customers.

Intel has appointed semiconductor industry veteran Seok-Hee Lee as executive vice president of Intel Foundry, placing him in charge of the company’s advanced packaging and system integration operations as it strengthens its foundry business.

Reporting directly to CEO Lip-Bu Tan, Lee will oversee advanced packaging technologies, back-end manufacturing, system integration, and related technology development efforts. The move reflects Intel’s growing focus on advanced packaging as a critical component of next-generation computing systems, particularly for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing applications.

The company said the new leadership structure establishes advanced packaging as a dedicated business area within Intel Foundry, highlighting its increasing importance in improving performance, power efficiency, and the integration of multiple chip components into a single system.

Lee joins Intel from battery manufacturer SK On, where he served as president and CEO. He previously led memory chipmaker SK hynix and has also held engineering and leadership positions at Intel earlier in his career, bringing decades of semiconductor manufacturing and technology expertise.

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan said advanced packaging and system integration are becoming essential capabilities for future computing platforms, enabling the combination of logic, memory, networking, and other technologies into highly integrated systems. He added that Lee’s experience in managing large-scale manufacturing organizations will help Intel expand its advanced packaging offerings, including technologies such as EMIB-T and HBI, as customer demand grows.

Lee said Intel is well-positioned to capitalize on increasing demand for system-level integration and expressed enthusiasm about returning to the company to help advance its manufacturing and technology leadership.

Meanwhile, Naga Chandrasekaran will continue leading front-end technology development and manufacturing efforts, including the ramp-up of Intel’s 18A and 14A process technologies. He will also retain responsibility for customer-facing and business enablement functions within Intel Foundry.

Separately, Intel announced that Executive Vice President Navid Shahriari will retire after a 37-year career with the company.
