Micron Raises US Investment Commitment To US$250 Billion Through 2035

Expanded semiconductor investment includes new supply chain funding and is expected to create over 90,000 jobs.

Micron Technology has paced up its planned investment in the United States to more than US$250 billion through 2035, up from the US$230 billion commitment announced last year, as rising AI-driven demand for memory chips accelerates domestic semiconductor manufacturing, according to Reuters.

The chipmaker said the expanded investment aligns with efforts to strengthen U.S. chip production and support increasing demand for AI memory. Shares of Micron rose about 8% in early trading and are up more than 200% over the past year.

At the centre of the expansion is Micron’s semiconductor campus in New York, which the company said is running ahead of schedule. Together with planned expansions in Idaho and Virginia, the projects are expected to generate more than 90,000 jobs.

As part of the initiative, Micron will invest US$3 billion to strengthen the U.S. semiconductor supply chain, including US$500 million to support GlobalWafers’ 300-mm raw silicon wafer facility in Sherman, Texas. The companies will also sign a 10-year supply agreement to secure silicon wafer capacity for Micron’s long-term manufacturing plans.

Demand for Micron’s memory chips has spiked alongside the AI boom. Last month, the company said customers across data centre, consumer and automotive markets had secured US$22 billion worth of memory chip supply.

The expanded investment underscores Micron’s strategy to scale AI-focused production while reinforcing the resilience of the U.S. semiconductor ecosystem.
