AI Demand Continues To Influence Semiconductor Supply And Procurement

The procurement strategies, manufacturing priorities and technology investments will continue to focus on AI-enabled applications

According to ASC Global’s Q3 2026 Electronics Market Report, Artificial intelligence will be reshaping the worldwide semiconductor industry, which drives demand for high-performance computing and enterprise infrastructure while keeping supply constrained for several critical components,

The procurement strategies, manufacturing priorities and technology investments will continue to focus on AI-enabled applications, particularly high-performance computing, industrial automation, and enterprise systems, mentioned in the report.

Despite improved availability for many mature semiconductor components, lead times remain extended for analog devices, power management ICs, memory products, and high-performance computing components due to sustained AI demand. Memory manufacturers are prioritizing production of HBM4, DDR5, and enterprise NAND, while FPGA, MCU, and embedded platforms continue to support long-lifecycle industrial applications.

ASC Global also highlighted a new wave of End-of-Life (EOL) notifications from major semiconductor suppliers, including Microchip Technology, Renesas, Infineon Technologies, NXP Semiconductors, Diodes Incorporated, and Analog Devices. The report advises manufacturers to closely monitor Product Change Notifications (PCNs), develop migration strategies, and secure inventory before last-time-buy deadlines to minimize redesign risks.

On component quality, the report found that 86.6% of tested electronic components passed inspection, while memory devices accounted for 21.5% of all tested parts. Hard drives, CPUs, isolated DC/DC converters, systems-on-chip (SoCs), FPGAs, and RF devices recorded the highest failure rates, underscoring the importance of authentication methods such as electrical verification, X-ray inspection, decapsulation, and functional testing.

Demand continues to grow for GPUs, server processors, FPGAs, enterprise memory, SSDs, and integrated circuits as AI infrastructure expands. Semiconductor companies including SK hynix, Samsung, Micron, NVIDIA, Intel, NXP, Infineon, STMicroelectronics, Microchip Technology, and Texas Instruments are continuing investments in AI, automotive, industrial automation, and embedded technologies.

The report also identified an ongoing shortage of industrial-grade MicroSD cards, driven by increasing demand from industrial automation, transportation, medical devices, networking, and edge AI applications. To address the supply gap, ASC Global said it has expanded its industrial MicroSD manufacturing capabilities to support long-lifecycle embedded storage requirements.

Additionally, the shortage of Diodes Incorporated components continues to affect lead times and product availability, prompting manufacturers to qualify additional suppliers and evaluate alternative components to reduce procurement risks and maintain production schedules.
