55-Inch Tvs Become the Mainstream Market Choice

Hisense India Chief Executive Pankaj Rana outlines how the domestic television market is mirroring smartphones by pivoting towards high-end, 75-inch screens.

India’s smart television sector, just like other categories such as smartphones and laptops, is undergoing a swift transition towards the premium segment, with consumers increasingly bypassing mid-range displays in favour of ultra-large screens, according to Hisense India Chief Executive Pankaj Rana.

Speaking at the launch of the company’s new Indian headquarters and experiential showroom in Gurugram, Rana revealed that 55-inch models have effectively established themselves as the new standard size in the Indian market. Meanwhile, demand for 65-inch sets is stagnating as buyers choose either to retain their 55-inch models or make a direct leap to 75-inch screens and above.

“In India, we are focusing primarily on customers who prefer larger screens. In the premium segment, whether it is RGB, Mini-LED, or larger screen sizes, this market will continue to grow for us,” stated Rana. To promote the technology, the manufacturer intends to set up more than 500 interactive RGB display zones across India.

Entry-level prices for the company’s 75-inch range start at approximately $836 (₹80,000). The brand is also preparing to heavily market its flagship 100-inch Mini-LED models featuring built-in 5.1-channel audio systems, positioning them as superior alternatives for households considering upgrades from standard 4K and QLED panels.

As part of its growth strategy leading into the crucial Diwali festive period, Hisense plans to highlight its advanced RGB backlighting technology—a innovation designed to deliver richer colour saturation, increased brightness, and sharper contrast than existing market alternatives.

While historically viewed as a budget-friendly brand, Chinese parent entity Hisense Group Corp has systematically expanded its premium portfolio in recent years to compete alongside established market leaders such as Samsung, Sony, and LG across Europe and North America.

To serve the Indian market, Hisense manufactures its televisions locally in partnership with two firms: Dixon Technologies in Tirupati and Bhagwati Products Limited (Micromax group) in Hyderabad. The company uses proprietary kits and components while progressively increasing the localisation of components
