GaN is used in applications including defence and aerospace, space systems, satellite communications, RF communications, telecommunications, power electronics and electric mobility
Hyderabad-based SpintronicsAI Semiconductors has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CSIR–Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-CEERI) to establish a strategic technology and design transfer partnership focused on Gallium Nitride (GaN) semiconductor technology.
SpintronicsAI Semiconductors said it is the first Indian company to enter into such a partnership with CSIR-CEERI. As part of the collaboration, the two organisations will assess the feasibility of establishing an indigenous GaN technology development and fabrication facility in India.
The assessment will cover technology and infrastructure requirements, fabrication capabilities, and potential pathways to strengthen domestic GaN semiconductor manufacturing. The partnership will also focus on transferring GaN technology and design know-how from research and development into an industry-led manufacturing ecosystem.
CSIR-CEERI, a constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), brings more than two decades of experience in GaN devices, including technology development, process know-how, device fabrication, characterisation, and skill development. SpintronicsAI Semiconductors will contribute its semiconductor design, engineering, manufacturing, and product-development capabilities.
“India’s GaN semiconductor market is projected to grow from approximately $224 million in 2026 to nearly $1.88 billion by 2033. This initiative can help India capture more of that value domestically by developing and manufacturing GaN products for power, RF, telecom, defence, space and automotive applications, while also creating opportunities for global markets,” said Raghu Varma, Founder and CEO, SpintronicsAI Semiconductors.
Dr Manish Mathew, Scientist F and Head, Diamond Research Group, CSIR-CEERI, said the collaboration would combine CEERI’s GaN technology and fabrication expertise with SpintronicsAI’s manufacturing and product-development capabilities. He added that the partnership is aimed at accelerating technology translation, indigenous semiconductor manufacturing, and semiconductor self-reliance.
GaN is used in applications including defence and aerospace, space systems, satellite communications, RF communications, telecommunications, power electronics and electric mobility. The partnership is intended to support the development of domestic GaN technologies and products while exploring the requirements for future fabrication capabilities in India.
SpintronicsAI Semiconductors said the collaboration is expected to serve as a foundation for a domestic GaN semiconductor ecosystem, with the company aiming to develop advanced GaN manufacturing capabilities in India and reduce dependence on imported technologies.
