The partnership will also assess advanced battery technologies for telecom applications
Cygni Energy and Indus Towers have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore collaboration on sourcing energy storage solutions for telecom infrastructure in India.
Under the proposed collaboration, the companies will evaluate establishing Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing capacity of up to 1.5 GWh to meet the evolving energy requirements of telecom infrastructure.
The partnership will also assess advanced battery technologies for telecom applications, with a focus on improving reliability, energy efficiency, and sustainability of telecom operations.
Venkat Rajaraman, Founder & CEO, Cygni Energy, said the initiative will focus on building manufacturing scale, technology capabilities, and readiness to support the energy requirements of large-scale telecom infrastructure.
Cygni Energy plans to develop capacity of up to 2 GWh, while expanding its battery portfolio from existing 100Ah solutions to higher-capacity 314Ah systems and emerging battery technologies, Rajaraman said.
Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala, Institute Professor, IIT Madras, and Chairman, ITEL Foundation, said collaboration between users, startups, manufacturers, and technology institutions can support the development and adoption of energy storage solutions in India.
The collaboration comes as telecom operators and infrastructure providers increasingly look for reliable and efficient energy storage systems to support India’s expanding digital infrastructure.
