The joint facility leverages collaborative robots and cleanroom engineering to automate global semiconductor fab operations.
Orbit & Skyline has inaugurated a new Robotics Development Center at its T7 facility in Mohali, Punjab, in partnership with global semiconductor equipment supplier Lam Research. Launched on 2 October 2026, the facility combines collaborative robots (cobots), advanced semiconductor hardware, and multidisciplinary engineering capabilities to accelerate automation across global fabrication plants and foundries.
The newly established centre serves as an integrated development, testing, and validation environment designed to enhance precision, safety, and operational efficiency in semiconductor manufacturing. The Mohali site houses an assembly and testing facility for complex electromechanical subsystems, an advanced engineering laboratory for prototyping, and a Class 10,000 cleanroom equipped with full semiconductor processing infrastructure.
Complementing the T7 facility, Orbit & Skyline operates two specialized design centres in Mohali. These units house multidisciplinary teams across mechanical, electrical, software, and mechatronics engineering, providing end-to-end lifecycle support for semiconductor original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Together, the facilities establish a connected architecture spanning initial engineering design to cleanroom validation and global field support.
A key focus for the facility will be supporting Lam Research’s Dextro™ platform—a mobile collaborative robot built to perform complex, hazardous, or repetitive equipment maintenance tasks alongside fab technicians. The centre will facilitate application development, integration, and training for Dextro™ and other automated solutions across Lam’s worldwide installed base.
Inaugurated in the presence of senior Lam Research executives, the facility represents a joint commitment to scaling high-value automation infrastructure in India. Girish Rai, Group General Manager for Engineering & Product Management at Orbit & Skyline, noted that bringing advanced equipment, cobots, and engineering expertise under one roof provides a robust platform to develop, test, and scale intelligent automation solutions for semiconductor operations globally.
