The proposed facility will be DHL’s first dedicated semiconductor warehouse in India
DHL Group plans to invest approximately ₹50 crore in a dedicated semiconductor logistics facility in Dholera, Gujarat, to support India’s growing semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. The warehouse is expected to begin operations by August 2027 and will be located near Tata Electronics’ semiconductor fabrication project in the Dholera Special Investment Region.
DHL Supply Chain India Managing Director Vikas Anand said the investment could increase three to four times by 2030, depending on customer requirements and expansion plans. The proposed facility will be DHL’s first dedicated semiconductor warehouse in India.
The facility is planned to support semiconductor manufacturers and their suppliers with specialised warehousing, inventory management, transportation and material handling. These operations require stringent quality controls, traceability, security and timely delivery to meet the demands of semiconductor production.
Semiconductor manufacturing involves the movement of specialised equipment, wafers, chemicals, components and finished products across multiple stages of production. Logistics providers play a critical role in supporting fabrication plant construction, ensuring the availability of production materials and transporting finished chips.
DHL already provides semiconductor logistics services globally, covering supply-chain requirements from fabrication plant construction to final product delivery. Its services include specialised storage, transportation, compliance support and handling of sensitive products.
The proposed Dholera facility is expected to provide semiconductor manufacturers and suppliers with a logistics base close to production operations. Proximity to fabrication plants could help reduce transit times, improve inventory visibility and streamline the movement of materials requiring controlled handling conditions.
The investment aligns with DHL Group’s broader commitment to invest approximately €1 billion in India across its business units by 2030. The programme covers sectors and capabilities including life sciences and healthcare, new energy, e-commerce and digitalisation.
With India developing its domestic semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, the proposed facility represents DHL’s move to build specialised logistics infrastructure to serve the emerging chip manufacturing and supplier ecosystem.
