Thursday, January 10, 2013: Rooftop solar projects have yet to catch the imagination of India. While states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka have devised policies that encourage setting up of such solar projects but the lack of participation countrywide has deterred many to wait for things to change.
With businesses strapped for cash and already looking into accounts receivable financing and other loan options to expand and maintain their current business rooftop solar projects are not at the top of their agenda. Which is why the IFC has stepped up to start funding.
Example: Su-Kam-Gamatronic. These UPS systems will support sectors like IT, banking and finance and receivable financing, healthcare, telecom, automation, metro rails, defence, railways, etc
Another state, Odisha could soon have its proposed rooftop solar photovoltaic project in Cuttack and Bhubaneshwar, if things go according to the plan and International Finance Corporation (IFC), the multilateral agency World Bank, successfully finances this project.
According to a Pioneer report, the project, popularly known as Green Power Project, will be executed in the twin city, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, owing to high demand for power energy and accute shortage in supply. The State Government will soon give final shape to the project.
According to the Department of Energy (DoE), there will be a 5 MW green power project at the outset; the job will be taken up by the proposed Odisha Green Energy Corporation Limited (OGECL), a fully-owned subsidiary of Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC).
The Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) under the Department of Science & Technology is looking after the solar power projects, and chief minister Naveen Patnaik has asked the DoE to expedite green power production. The projects would come up on rooftops and will be connected to the grid.
