Tuesday, February 25, 2014: In a constant account of the country’s solar capacity, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has reportedly released a new data on installed solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity in India. The list recorded a breakdown by order of both, states and government agencies.
The data is a compilation, and shows that the state of Gujarat with its solar programme as the largest with 860 MW (39 per cent) of India’s installed PV capacity. Also, Gujarat is, by far the most successful state in implementing its solar power programmes, which are responsible for 1.17 GW (over half of installed capacity) of solar energy.
The state’s capacity is nearly double against the 687 MW solar capacity, that is, supported by MNRE programmes with the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM). The projects in this western state, are all are supported under the state programme.
The MNRE has expanded its solar projects mostly in the state of Rajasthan. The government agency supports 493 MW solar capacity in the state with JNNSM. If REC and RPO projects are accounted, Rajasthan has a total capacity of 667 MW of installed PV power plants.
MNRE said that 296 MW of solar capacity, in the entire country is as built under the renewable energy credit (REC) programme, and only a capacity of 40 MW is available through the renewable purchase obligations (RPO), and all of which is in Rajasthan, said a SolarServer report.
