Monday, July 14, 2014: Recognising the fact that the concept of Fab City, the much-hyped semi-conductor hub on the outskirts of Hyderabad, has failed to attract companies, the Telangana government has now planned to come up with the E-City on the same land.
As much as 1050 acres of land was allotted to the Fab City, which was meant for semiconductor manufacturing firms at Raviryal village in Maheshwaram mandal of Ranga Reddy. Even after six years of the allotment made by the YSR government, only 64 acres land is utilised.
The TRS government is now planning to utilise the vacant land for the E-City project, which will give the much-desired push to the electronic manufacturing companies. A series of meetings have also been held by the Information technology minister K.T. Rama Rao, for discussing the utilisation of Fab City land for setting up the E-City. Rao has planned to set up two “electronic clusters” spread over 600 acres and 400 acres in the Fab land and further, develop the required infrastructure.
The next step that the government will take is inviting the ‘Expressions of Interest’ from reputed firms to take the idea of electronic clusters forward. “With the availability of world-class education and research institutions and quality manpower, there is every possibility of the E-City attracting reputed global and national electronic firms to set up operations here,” Rao said.
