Civil Aviation Minister says all airports should install solar energy units

The Union Civil Aviation Minister, Ashok Gajapathi Raju has said that all airports in the country should install solar energy units and should follow in the footsteps of Kochi airport. The minister was talking to journalists where he was showcasing installation of 5 KV solar energy panel installations at his residence which came at a cost of Rs 5 lakh.

The minister said that the 12-MW solar power unit that is installed at the Kochi airport is run by Cochin International Airport Ltd. The minister also said that Delhi airport has also installed solar energy units and like this all airports should look forward towards installing solar energy as it would result in huge cost savings in years to come.

The Modi-government has put a ambitious National Solar Mission which has target to install 100 GW of solar energy by 2022. This has made India one of the favourable solar destinations globally with lot of multinationals eyeing the India’s solar market.

Recently, we have witnessed the government coming up with numerous solar tenders in different states which would help the government in meeting their solar targets.
