Thought Bathinda has not been included in the list of smart cities, the city will soon have the smart lightening system. City roads are set to be illuminated with energy-efficient LED lights and the Municipal Corporation Bathinda (MCB) has installed LED lights on a trial basis on the Mall road.
If the trial is successful, in the comings day, the whole lighting system would be upgraded. The MCB has cancelled the proposal of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) in its F&CC meeting. The civic body is in touch with another company to discuss the same proposal. The electricity bill of street lights is around Rs 40 lakh per month.
In order to reduce the bill, the MCB has started making plans to replace street lights with LED lights in the city. After which EESL told the MCB that Rs 51.8 million will be the cost of the project, terming it as expensive the corporation cancelled the proposal. PPK Global offer to install 27 LED lights on a trial basis.
Thought the LED lights have been installed on a trial basis, the MCB is planning to install LED lights on chowks and main roads of the city, for which the civic body is thinking of floating a tender of Rs 25 lakh. A separate electricity meter has been installed on the Mall road to compare the electricity bills of street lights and LED lights.
Earlier, sodium lamps, tube lights and metal-halide lamps were installed in various areas of the city and now, these will also be replaced with LED lights. An MCB official said after the installation of LED lights, the MC would be able to save up to 50 per cent energy that would help in reducing the monthly expenditure on electricity.
