Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has decided to install light emitting diode (LED) street lights all over the city with the help of a public sector undertaking Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).
The municipality board recently passed a proposal to put up 16,000 LED bulbs on blank polls and replace the existing 16,000 sodium vapour lights and tube-lights on the city streets.
The project is expected to cost approximately Rs 430 million. Sources informed that power and money will be saved in various ways if this scheme is implemented.
According to the ET Energyworld, an official said that the power consumption of the existing street light is 4.42 MW, which is expected to come down to 1.93 MW when they are replaced by LED bulbs. The state will be saving Rs 32,00,000 per annum approximately.
The company signed a memorandum of understanding with the state government to put up 1,00,000 LED bulbs in the urban local bodies including Hazaribag, Dhanbad, Deoghar, Basukinath, Medininagar, Dumka, Adityapur and Mango. It has started by putting up 2500 LED bulbs for the Shravani mela and 700 for the global investors summit on emergency basis.
