Auto component major Bharat Forge is embracing smart manufacturing standards in its workplace, reported The Hindu Business Line citing source.
According to BN Kalyani, Chairman & Managing Director, the company is proactively investing in machines and in enhancing people skills to realise Industry 4.0 (or smart manufacturing) standards. This is a part of its vision of moving towards a digitised workplace for higher levels of productivity and efficiency across all the operating processes, he said in the company’s annual report.
“The automotive industry is changing rapidly, and we can take advantage of opportunities in emerging areas like light weighting, electrification and new mobility concepts. Instead of being disrupted, we choose to be a part of this transformation,” he said.
Bharat Forge has the in-house infrastructure for building the capability of the workforce in smart manufacturing. It has also engaged the members of the union and workmen in its drive for a digitised workplace.
“We are re-training more than 2,500 employees on digital manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. For this, we have set up four labs including PTC’s ThingWorx Internet of Things (IoT) platform,” said Kalyani. It has also put in place three in-house Industry 4.0 capability development centres for the workforce.
