To become a net zero energy company, the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) is all set to install 5 MWp rooftop PV systems at more than 50 locations of the company across the country.
According to PTI, the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) is setting up 5 MWp rooftop solar PV systems at more than 50 locations of the company across the country. Right now it has more than 500 kWp solar PV systems operational at different premises.
Before Independence Day, it is expected to install another 140 kWp at sector 43 and 46, Gurugram (Haryana), generating 7-8 million units per annum. PGCIL’s these efforts are all due to becoming a net zero energy company.
As per Mercom, most of the rooftop installations are taking place in the government, industrial and commercial sectors and its pace is very slow as per the target set by the government. As of Q1 2018, only 2 GW of solar rooftop solar has been installed out of 40 GW target set by the government for 2022.
There is almost negligible growth in residential rooftop market. The main reason for this is poor financial options for residential customers. According to Mercom’s previous reports, another reason is the delays in subsidy disbursement.
According to India’s Solar Market Leaders recently released report, the top 10 rooftop solar developers in India accounted for 27 percent of rooftop solar PV installations. The top solar power installer in 2017 was Tata Power followed by CleanMax and Fourth Partner Energy.
