Syska plans to produce camera modules for mobile devices, automotive, medical, security and defence sectors jointly with two foreign companies
After LED lights, personal care appliances, mobile and other accessories, Syska group has partnered with Singapore-based Biometronics and Taiwan-based optical system solution provider Suyin Optronics to foray into the camera equipment segment. The plan is to set up India’s first camera module factory at Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
The company will be investing around Rs. 200 crores to produce camera modules used in mobile phones, automobiles, security and defence industries. Rear view cameras, CCTV and drones are its primary focus in the automobiles, security and defence sectors respectively.
Rajesh Uttamchandani, Syska Group Director, said that the completion of the first phase was expected within three-four years duration. Prabhu Sridharan, Biometronic Pte promoter and managing director, said that the investment would have a revenue of around Rs 1,600 to Rs 1,800 crores on completion.
An installed production capacity of 5 million pieces per month has been set for the initial period, which will be expanded up to 10 million pieces a month. The company’s first chip-on-board unit for the sensors is included in the plan.
Market in focus
The mobile phones and automotive segments are in the company’s target list. The managing director of Biometronic said that after mobile phones, the automotive sector was the next big market to be followed. The medical sector which requires camera modules for endoscopies is also to be catered. The company has been working on developing a standard camera module that will be available for use by any industry.
In the joint venture with the two foreign companies, the Syska group owns a 49 per cent stake, Biometronic has 41 per cent and the Suyin Optronics has the rest of 10 per cent stake.
Apart from eyeing the domestic market, Syska plans to export its potentials of camera modules.
