The Uttar Pradesh government is targeting solar energy generation of 10,700 Mw by 2022 and plans to invest Rs 500 billion to promote the sector
The Uttar Pradesh government has selected six energy majors including Adani Group, Tata Power and NTPC to develop nine solar power projects in the state.
The total capacity of these projects amounts to 550 Mw, with different installed limits, ranging from 25 megawatt (Mw) to 100 Mw, Business Standard reported.
UP New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) had welcomed tariff-based e-bids from organizations under the new UP Solar Energy Policy 2017.
As revealed by UP Energy Principal Secretary Alok Kumar, NTPC has won a solar project for 85 Mw, while Bastille Solar got two projects of 70 Mw each.
Giriraj Renewables won the bid for a 100-Mw plant, while Adani Group’s solar energy arm, Mahoba Solar (UP), has been awarded two projects of 25 Mw and 50 Mw.
Other winners include Tata Power Renewables Energy that has been awarded two projects of 50 Mw each, and Jakson Power which has won 50-Mw capacity project.
Ramping up solar power generation
The Uttar Pradesh government is targeting solar energy generation of 10,700 Mw by 2022. It is promoting solar power parks under the public-private-partnership (PPP) model to reduce overdependence on coal-fired power.
In addition, the state government is looking forward to garnering private investment of almost Rs 55 billion in the proposed Bundelkhand Green Energy Corridor, which is expected to generate solar power totaling 4,000 Mw. The proposed corridor would be part funded by the Centre.
Earlier, the state had also announced to provide 100 per cent exemption in electricity duty to the private solar power companies for 10 years. They would be allowed to sell power to third parties as well.
An investment of Rs 500 billion is being targeted by the current UP government in the solar power space.
