MG Motor Teams Up With Umicore To Recycle End-Of-Life Batteries

  • Recently, , MG Motor India had partnered with Exicom Tele-Systems for second-life use of ZS EV batteries
  • The company has also tied up with Delta Electronics to establish AC chargers in private parking space

MG Motor has teamed up with battery life-cycle management firm Umicore to recycle end-of-life batteries of its electric SUV ZS EV. The company will launch the ZS EV SUV, its first electric vehicle on 5th December.

In a press release, the company said, “Umicore is one of few companies that offer a complete recycling journey for Li-ion batteries. Umicore holds extensive expertise in end-to-end battery life cycle management and a unique battery value chain that guarantees better operational efficiency, supply security, and speed of response.”

Minimal waste and impact on the environment

MG Motor also said that the partnership will allow end-of-life ZS EV batteries to be recycled which will ensure that customers have peace of mind about their ecological footprint. The company will provide its closed loop sustainable recycling solution that aims to create minimal waste and impact on the environment.

Gaurav Gupta, chief commercial officer, MG Motor, said, “Our partnership with Umicore focuses on end-of-life applications for used EV battery packs and ensures that exhausted battery packs of MG ZS EV are recycled in keeping with the global best standards, to ensure environment-friendly battery disposal.”

Few days back, MG Motor India had partnered with Exicom Tele-Systems for second-life use of ZS EV batteries. Under the partnership, Exicom plans to re-deploy MG ZS EV batteries at the end of their useful life in the car. It will also put these batteries through a controlled process of evaluation, disassembly and repackaging to design custom battery packs for non-automotive applications. The company had also had partnered with Delta Electronics to establish AC chargers in private parking space.
