GEL Will Undertake Aadhar Tier-2 Projects

Goa Electronics Limited (GEL) owned by the state government of Goa, has been selected by the central government. The Union ministry for electronics and information technology (MeitY) has selected Goa Electronics Limited (GEL) as one of the eight software development agencies across the country for various Aadhaar projects. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is going to sign a three-year-long contract with Goa Electronics Limited (GEL), which can be further extended for two additional years, according to recent documents.

This allows Goa Electronics Limited (GEL) to work on multiple projects by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) which are valued at up to Rs 2 million, including but not limited to integration touch points, e-KYC services, enrolment server systems, authentication and mobile applications.

“This is a big way forward for GEL to get on the national level. Along with Goa, GEL is now taking its expertise and experience to the national level. This will give us an opportunity to develop software for UIDAI and contribute to a larger cause by using IT engineers in Goa,” a senior government official said. The union ministry has instructed Goa Electronics Limited (GEL) to pay a security deposit of Rs 100,000 within 14 days. Goa Electronics Limited (GEL) has been accountable for developing software projects in the state and has been driving the state government’s e-governance projects.

Goa Electronics Limited (GEL) was started in 1978 as a completely owned subsidiary of EDC Limited, Goa Electronics Limited (GEL) started manufacturing televisions and audio sets, but has developed into a software development agency that sustains e-governance projects in Goa as well as Maharashtra and Karnataka.

After being contracted, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will determine projects that ought to be taken up and also allocate the projects to the contracted agencies. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has contracted software development agencies under two classifications, with eight agencies shortlisted in each category. Complex projects worth more than Rs 2 million will be given to the Tier-1 firms while projects valued at less than Rs 2 million will go to the Tier-2 firms.
