Hioki has installed its PCB inspection machine in India for the first time, adding an Indian installation to its global user base of more than 1600 machines, according to the company.
Japanese measurement equipment maker Hioki has installed its PCB inspection machine in India for the first time. The machine inspects printed circuit boards (PCBs) and semiconductor package substrates by testing their electrical characteristics.
At SEMICON 2026, Hiromi Kimoto, Senior Director of Automatic Test Equipment at Hioki, said the company has installed more than 1600 such machines globally. Its users include manufacturers in Japan, Taiwan, China, and South Korea. “This year, we got the order for our first machine,” Hiromi added.
The machine uses a capacitance-based test method for PCB inspection. The method allows inspection at a higher speed than conventional resistance-based testing.
“The capacitance test is one of the key features that differentiates the machine from other inspection equipment, and the machine is also smaller than some other machines used for similar testing,” Hiromi said.
Hioki’s flying-probe inspection systems use probes to test points on a PCB or substrate without requiring a dedicated test fixture. Capacitance measurement is among the methods used in its PCB and substrate inspection systems, with some current flying-probe models capable of testing up to 100 points per second.
The machine is manufactured by Hioki in Japan. Hioki specialises in electrical measurement equipment and applies its measurement technology to PCB testing. Designed for automated inspection, it allows manufacturers to check boards during production and quality-control processes.
Globally, the company has machines installed at multiple manufacturing sites in Japan, Taiwan, China, and South Korea.
The installation places Hioki’s PCB and semiconductor package inspection equipment in the Indian manufacturing market, where electrical testing is used during board production and quality checks.
