Since the national manufacturing policy is soon to be announced, India is preparing to revamp its manufacturing setup, with the aim of emerging as a world class manufacturing hub. Realising the potential in this arena, various companies catering to different sectors, such as consumer and industrial electronics, telecom equipment, computers and solar energy, are on their way to expanding their existing facilities in India, or are planning to set up new facilities to tap the huge opportunities within the country. These activities on the manufacturing front will also boost the growth of many other sectors like tools and equipment, test and measurement devices, SMT and through-hole machines, etc.

HAVELLS INDIA LTD
Products manufactured: Wires and cables, electrical and power equipment
The company has recently doubled the manufacturing capacity of its cables and wires plant at Alwar, Rajasthan. With an investment of around Rs 1200 million (Rs 120 crore) to modernise and expand the capacity of the plant, the company has increased its turnover from Rs 12 billion (Rs 1200 crore) per annum to Rs 24 billion (Rs 2400 crore) per annum. It has also expanded its whole range of LT, HT and EHV cables, which has been upgraded from 33 kV grade to 132 kV grade. The company is targeting an average net revenue of Rs 18 billion (Rs 1800 crore) in FY-2012 in its cables and wires business.

LG ELECTRONICS INDIA PVT LTD
Products manufactured: Consumer electronics and home appliances
The company’s plant at Ranjangoan, Pune, will be expanded to start manufacturing smartphones. The unit has already a production capacity of 8 million handsets (mainly entry level and features phones). It aims to expand its production to 10 million units by the end of 2011. LG Mobiles is targeting a turnover of Rs 30 billion (Rs 3000 crore) in 2011 and aims to sell about 450,000 smartphone units in India this year. The company has earmarked Rs 2.5 billion (Rs 250 crore) to strengthen the infrastructure for retail development and marketing activities.

SAPA PROFILES INDIA PVT LTD
Products manufactured: Aluminium extruded, machine heatsinks, etc
The company has recently set up its manufacturing plant for extruded and machined Aluminium heatsinks or profiles for various applications in the telecom, transportation, LED lighting and power segments customised as per customers requirements, with a capacity to produce 9000 MT. Currently, it has six CNC machines and a CMM machine, with plans to add more CNC machines. Recently, it acquired Alufit (India) Pvt Ltd, an aluminium extrusion company, which has a plant in Kuppam, near Bengaluru.

PLG Power Ltd
Products manufactured: Crystalline PV modules and polycrystalline silicon
The company will set up a solar cell manufacturing facility in Nasik, which will have an annual capacity of 120 MW. It has earmarked an investment of about Rs 4100 million for this, and expects to start production by January 2012. It also aims to establish 60 MW solar cell manufacturing unit at Indore, which will be expanded to 120 MW by 2012.
