ACME Solar has announced that it has commissioned solar plants totalling 150 MW in Rajasthan and Odisha Under Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission, according to reports.
ACME Solar is a joint venture between ACME Cleantech Solutions Ltd, EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN) – the renewable energy arm of French state-run electricity utility Electricite de France S.A, and Luxembourg based natural resources saving group EREN. ACME has business focus all around three E’s of energy–Energy Conservation, Management and Generation.
The 120 MW project for Rajasthan is located in the Thar desert and it is a combination of five photovoltaic plants equipped with 612,000 solar panels while Odisha 30 MW project is located in the Sikuan area and solar plant comprises 117,000 photovoltaic panels. With a total output of 150 MW, the solar plants will provide energy to more than 90,000 Indian homes.
Funded by local and international financial institutions including International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), this project significantly contributes to the local economy and employment, as all construction, operation and maintenance work, as well as the supply of 20 per cent of photovoltaic modules have been contracted with Indian businesses, thus creating a sustainable local industrial cluster.
According to Manoj Kumar Upadhyay, chairman, ACME Cleantech said ,”The solar market in India has been steadily growing for several years and is now undeniably a competitive solution. ACME is actively pursuing alternative energy initiatives in solar sector providing solutions for both Thermal and Photovoltaic technologies in India and expects to be at the forefront of the solar revolution in the country. It has pioneered solar power development in India and has commissioned the first solar thermal power project based on Tower technology in Asia.
