After the immensely successful three-day EV Expo in Bengaluru which recorded a heavy footfall of around 30,000, the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) has decided to organise similar events in tier-two cities in the state in future.
To further promote green energy and the use of EVs in Karnataka, the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM), which recently organised an EV Expo in Bengaluru, has decided to organise similar events in tier-two cities in the state. The EV expo at Chamara Vajra, Palace grounds, in Bengaluru was inaugurated by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday and went on till Sunday. The event recorded a hefty footfall of around 30,000.
P Rajendra Cholan, MD at BESCOM, said that the department will organise similar EV expos in Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi, Belagavi, and Gulbarga. BESCOM will be responsible for providing the necessary infrastructure, facilities, and support to start EV charging stations in the state.
Many industry experts have indicated that more than 500,000 EVs will be on city roads by 2025. In the following two months, BESCOM plans to set up over 1,000 charging stations in areas under its limits, officials said. BESCOM has been operating 389 EV charging stations until now. Public and private corporations can also apply online in order to get authorisation to set up new charging stations. The electricity department has also designed the EV Mitra app to supply information about charging stations in the city. “The EV Mitra App is user friendly, it will provide information on charging stations, rates, payment options, and advance booking for charging,” said BESCOM in a press release.
In an additional motion, the department is in talks with the Residents Welfare Associations to set up charging stations in apartments and residential areas in Bengaluru to further increase the network of charging stations.
