The report said that General Motors said that its first electric truck will be a pickup. The production for it will begin late next year. This vehicle will be followed by a self-driving vehicle named Cruise Origin.
Invest $7.7 billion in its U.S. plants over the next four years
Last year, Reuters had reported that General Motors plans to build a new range of EVs at the plant from late 2021. The company also said that it will invest $7.7 billion in its U.S. plants over the next four years. The ET report added that the plant will be idled for many months at the end of February. This will be done because the company will start renovations for the production of electric trucks and SUVs.
The report added that Ford is also expected to start building premium electric pickups in late 2021. The production will take place at a Detroit-area assembly plant.
